Burlington Blaze Third Team To 10 Wins In Victory Over Brampton
The Burlington Blaze march up the standings continued Sunday night with an 11-3 home win over the Brampton Excelsiors. The win improves their home record to 4-2, and 3-1 since the trade deadline which brought goaltender Zack Thompson, Ben Trumble and goaltender Deacan Knott from the Peterborough Lakers.
The game was scoreless for nearly 15 minutes when it was Trumble who broke the ice. 27 seconds later Josh Rosa scored off the faceoff, part of a 3-0 first period.
Following Erich Acton’s goal to open the second period, the Blaze would go on another three-goal run – the first two from Braedon Saris and Zack Thompson within 32 seconds. Cameron Sterritt and Eric Ward tried to kick start a Brampton run, but it was stopped at those two goals in 25 seconds. Alex Marinier and Will MacLeod closed out the period to put Burlington ahead 8-3.
They’d pull away further in the third with three unanswered goals, ending the game 11-3, and improving their record to 10-5 overall.
Deacan Knott stopped 39 of Brampton’s 42 saves for his third win in Burlington. Three goals against is a new career-best. Alex Marinier led Burlington with three goals (and three assists) – his ninth hat trick of the season in 15 games. He finished the night with 39 goals on the season, in a tie for second in the OJLL with Toronto’s Matt Collison. His 79 points place him third.
Burlington will now host the Whitby Warriors (6-10) on Wednesday evening. Brampton will travel to a different Memorial Arena (the one in Peterborough) to face the Lakers (4-9) on Monday.
