MIMICO MOUNTAINEERS DOMINATE BRAMPTON EXCELSIORS IN FINAL HOME GAME
Hosting their final home game of the season on Tuesday, the Mimico Mountaineers. With second place on the line for the Mountaineers, the Brampton Excelsiors needed a win to avoid a three-way tie with Burlington and St Catharines in the standings. Three Mimico forwards finished with hat tricks and Nate Whittom and the defence had a strong night ending in a 16-3 win.
Already leading 4-1 after the first period, four Mountaineers combined for an early four-goal run, including three in 1:49. Finn Thomson had three assists during the stretch. He’d score and add another assist later in the period that ended 7-1 for Mimico, stretching the overall lead to 11-2.
57 seconds after Aaron Toguri opened the scoring three minutes into the third, Erich Acton scored just the third Brampton goal on the power play. Angus MacDonell answered shorthanded, and then Mimico added three more in the last five minutes to cap a 16-3 victory, moving into second place.
Eight different Mountaineers scored in the game. Justin Lee (3+2), Finn Thomson (3+8) and Lucas Dudemaine (3+3) all scored hat tricks. Nate Whittom’s three goals allowed (off 38 shots) was a career low in a start. Mimico will end their season on Wednesday night at the ILA.
Nolan Byrne (1+2) was in on all three Excelsiors goals. Gavin Clarke faced 74 shots in his first career OJLL start. The Brampton Excelsiors also complete their season Wednesday night in Orangeville. A win would move Brampton into fourth place, whereas a loss creates a three-way tie where the Excelsiors would finish sixth.
