NORTHMEN WIN THIRD OF LAST FOUR, SIX NATIONS SLIDE CONTINUES
Amongst a stretch of seven-of-eight games at Tony Rose Arena, the Orangeville Northmen took a trip to the ILA Wednesday. The Six Nations Arrows were not only coming off a loss in Brampton the night before, but had also dropped six of their last seven since starting the season 3-0. The suddenly surging Northmen shutdown the Arrows attack in the third period, allowing for a 10-7 win.
Orangeville capitalized on three power play opportunities in the first. Down 1-0, Liam Matthews scored on a two man advantage. He’d add two more goals in a five-goal run. Though Matthew Hamill scored before the end of the period, the Arrows still trailed 5-2.
Thunder Hill, however, changed that through the first half of the second period. He sandwiched a pair of goals around one from Winter Rivera, who did not play in the Brampton loss. Trey Deere restored the Hornheads lead, which lasted until inside of two minutes to play. Rookies Kenny Porter and McCay Jimerson not only tied the game, but gave Six Nations its first lead. Deere’s second with just over a minute to play re-tied the game at seven heading into the third.
32 seconds into a major penalty, it was Deere again completing his hat trick with what would end up being the game-winning goal. Owen Rahn scored twice to end the game 10-7, Orangeville’s third win in four games.
Liam Matthews led Orangeville with six points (3+3). Trey Deere added his fourth hat trick of the season. Owen Rahn’s four goals set a new career-high in just his second career multi-goal game.
Thunder Hill once again led Six Nations with four points (2+2). Sakaronhiontane (50 saves on 60 shots) stopped 50 or more shots for the fourth time in eight starts this season.
