THIRD STRAIGHT WIN FOR PETERBOROUGH LAKERS COMES AT HOME AGAINST KITCHENER-WATERLOO
The Peterborough Lakers are suddenly surging. After dropping their first four games of the season, including three at home, they then beat the Six Nations Arrows and Mimico Mountaineers. On Monday night they returned home and kept the streak going, beating Kitchener-Waterloo 8-6.
Peterborough opened the game with five goals from five different players including one on the power play and one short handed. Matthew Drimmie had four assists in the 5-0 period.
Malikye Good, who’s scored more than fifteen per cent of KW’s goals this season, got his team on the board just over three minutes into the second period. Goaltenders Bryce Witmer (Kitchener) and Cole Gervais (Peterborough) stopped everything through the next 10 minutes until Colby Wood scored for the Lakers. 26 seconds later Treyton Weinstein netted a second Kitchener goal, but his team still trailed 6-2 heading into the final frame.
Nearing the midway mark of the third, Nolan Barker and 2023 first overall pick Clark Dunford scored within 47 seconds to pull KW within two. Drimmie’s lone goal of the game set up a wild final minute. Reece DiCicco and Weinstein both scored with just nine seconds between goals. But five seconds later, with only two ticks on the clock, William White made it 8-6, the eventual final.
One day after setting a career-high in points, Matthew Drimmie bested his mark again with five (1+4). All eight goals came from eight different scorers. Nicholas Roode had three assists.
KW rookie Treyton Weinstein led the attack with his first multi-goal game (2). Max Frattaroli had four assists, and Malikye Good had three points (1+2).
