Whitby Warriors Wrap Regular Season With Win Over Peterborough

The Whitby Warriors wrapped up their regular season Friday night, with an 8-4 home win over the Peterborough Lakers. The win secures Whitby as the sixth seed and a first-round playoff matchup against either the Toronto Beaches (12-7) or Oakville Buzz (12-7).

Peterborough took an early lead on a goal by Tom Collins, who has now scored in five straight games with multiple goals in three of those five. A pair of Warriors goals from Jack Budway and Treysen Stewart 52 seconds apart capped a 2-1 first period.

Luke Robinson’s first goal of the season and Lucas Littlejohn’s first of three extended the run, and lead. Three goals for the Lakers re-tied the game, but Littlejohn’s thirtieth of the season made the score 5-4 Whitby after two.

Both teams combined for 64 minutes of penalties in the third period, including a spirited tilt between Adam Thistlethwaite and John Weller. All those opportunities only resulted in a Ryan Langille power play goal, part of three unanswered in the period for the Warriors, giving them an 8-4 win.

Lucas Littlejohn led all runners with five points (3 goals, 2 assists). Fifth overall pick in the OJLL entry draft, Treysen Stewart had four points (1 goal, 3 assists).

Tom Collins scored two of Peterborough’s four goals. The other goal scorers were Michael Blaymires and Matthew Drimmie.
