BRAMPTON COME FROM BEHIND IN OAKVILLE, WINNING ON BACK-TO-BACK NIGHTS

A big first period from the Oakville Buzz on home floor Thursday night disappeared through the latter stages of the second, and into the third period. The Brampton Excelsiors finished the game on a 7-1 run to win 11-9, giving them back-to-back road wins in as many nights.

Oakville started strong with a 5-0 lead before the halfway point of the first period. Five different players – Jameson Steel, Riley Ford, Brian Jackman, Will Sheehan and Xander Derkatz – combined for those goals. Brampton was able to stop the run, scoring three times before the end of the period including team leaders Nolan Byrne and Bowie Horsman, but still trailed 6-3 after the first.

The lead would stretch to 8-4 just over five minutes into the second period. A pair of goals from Byrne followed Nolan Marshall’s third goal in two nights. Christopher Da Silva and Derkatz second goals of the night closed out the period with Brampton trailing by just one, 9-8.

Marshall, Horsman and Da Silva all scored again in the third, while Connor O’Toole stopped all 16 shots faced in the frame to give Brampton the 11-9 win.

In addition to his first career hat trick, Nolan Byrne added five assists. Christopher Da Silva (3+2) also scored his first OJLL hat trick. Bowie Horsman (2+4) added six points to his now 25 on the season – good enough for fourth in the OJLL.

Xander Derkatz hat trick led Oakville, as did his four points. Also with four points were Brian Jackman (1+3) and Jack MacAlpine (0+4). Will Sheehan (1+2), Jameson Steele (1+2) and Jake Dawick (0+3) all finished with three.
