Kitchener-Waterloo Win First Of The Season With Third Period Run
Since the OJLL returned to a normal post-pandemic schedule in 2022, Kitchener-Waterloo have never lost to the Six Nations Arrows at Kinsmen Arena. On Wednesday night, the streak continued as KW scored five unanswered goals in the third to win 10-5.
The teams traded three-goal runs in the first period. Noah Candy and Mailkye Good scored 23 seconds apart to kick off KW’s streak, and Winter Rivera’s second came 28 seconds ahead of Thunder Hill’s goal to end the Arrows’ run.
The teams were not only tied 4-4 after the first, they were tied 5-5 after two periods. Power play goals from both Chris Rathwell and Hill in the middle frame sent the game to the third all even.
Rathwell opened the third scoring just under seven minutes into the period. It would jump start a run of five straight Kitchener goals from five different players – Noah Candy, Max Frattaroli, Kaden Kublinskas, Tryton Weinsein – and stretch into the final minute. Those five were enough to give Kitchener-Waterloo its first win of the season, 10-5.
Noah Candy led the way for the home side with six points (2+4). Both Chris Rathwell (3+1) and Nathan Ward (0+4) finished with four, and Max Fattaroli (1+2) and Cal Brennan (0+3) had three. Bryce Wismer stopped 36 of the Arrows’ 41 saves for the fourth win of his career, and second straight against Six Nations.
Winter Rivera (2+1), Thunder Hill (2+1) and Daylin John-Hill (1+2) topped the Arrows with three points. It’s the first game this season Thunder Hill has not scored a hat trick. Ethan Robertson stopped 53 of 63 shots.
