Finlay Thomson has been on a three-year tear through the OJLL. Going back to the bubble season where he scored a goal per game, but his Mimico Mountaineers were ousted in the semi-finals. He responded last season, leading the league in points at over a six per game pace helping the Mountaineers to the top seed. On Sunday night, Thomson found himself once again atop the stats board, but also at the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena where he put up his highest total of the season in a 15-6 win over Six Nations.

His goal five minutes into the game was part of three points off four goals in the frame. Hawi Francis answered the first goal with the first of his OJLL career. Winter Rivera also scored in the period that saw the Arrows trail 4-2.

A high sticking major to Six Nations in the second led to a pair of Mimico goals, part of a four goal run. (Yes, Thomson was in on all four.) The Arrows would add three goals before the end of the period, from Rivera, Oneniotekowa Maracle and Brendan Anderson, but Thomson would add another assist and score his fifth of the game to end the period 7-3 for Mimico, giving them an 11-5 lead.

Isaac Squire-Hill capped the Arrows’ scoring with a goal that followed Lucas Dudemaine’s third of the game. Thomson would add two more assists on three final goals to cap a 13 point night in Mimico’s 15-6 win.

Finn Thomson had five goals and eight assists, putting up double-digit points for the third time in four games. He now has 70 through nine games, 17 clear of Toronto’s Willem Firth who has played eight, and 27 clear of the next closest player with nine games – Burlington’s Alex Marinier. Isiah Moran-Weekes’ two goals (and four assists) move him into second in the OJLL in goals with 24, one behind Firth.

The Mountaineers fired 69 shots at Arrows’ goaltender Mason Jacobs, who ended the night with 54 saves.

Mimico will next kick off a two-game weekend home stand against the Oakville Buzz (7-4) on Saturday, while the Arrows will welcome the Brampton Excelsiors (2-6).
