NEW LOOK BRAMPTON EXCELSIORS BLOW OUT BUZZ
Two of the OJLL’s biggest sellers at the trade deadline - the Oakville Buzz and Brampton Excelsiors - met up mere hours later in a Sunday afternoon matinee. There was much to celebrate at Brampton Memorial Arena, including minor players who were treated to games and ice cream, including the juniors who dominated from start to finish winning 15-3.
Jacob Janke had a career day that started in the first period. The Brampton native scored twice and added two assists in a 4-1 Excelsiors first period. Oakville’s lone goal was a power play marker in the final minute from Brody Fletcher, his first career OJLL goal.
All the scoring in the second period happened in the first half. Four different scorers combined for five goals, including back-to-back shorthanded markers from Janke and Christopher Da Silva 26 seconds apart. Buzz rookie Charlie Boon had two points in the frame – scoring on the power play and assisting on John Logue’s first OJLL goal in his first game. Brampton led 9-3 heading into the third.
Oakville elected to change goalies at the break, allowing for the OJLL debut of Parker Curtis. However, the offence of the Excelsiors was too much on this night scoring six unanswered from six different players to cap a 15-3 victory.
Jacob Janke’s five goals and nine points are both career highs. Brampton was led by Nolan Byrne (2+9) whose 11 points was also a career high, one more than his previous mark set four games prior. Markus Madill allowed just three goals off 40 shots, winning his Brampton debut and setting a career low.
