Oakville Buzz sting Kitchener-Waterloo in a high-scoring 15-6 affair

Prior to their matchup in Kitchener-Waterloo on Friday night, the Oakville Buzz acquired Riley Ford and Robert Morgan in exchange for Malikye Good and Dylan Lee. All four players dressed for their new teams, with the KW pair both getting on the scoresheet. However, two nights after dropping their first game of the season the Buzz came away victorious, 15-6.

First overall pick in the OJLL entry draft Clark Dunford two goals in the first period helped KW keep the frame tied, despite an opening goal from Jake Wright. His second followed a Zane Dalpe power play marker, giving the home side the lead. A shorthanded goal in the final minute from Thomas Bagnall ended the first tied at four.

In the second, Oakville took over. Brian Jackman, Eddie Qu and Eric McDonald all scored twice in a 7-0 Buzz second period. Ford scored the other goal, the second of the period, which included two more shorthanded goals, and one on the power play, of which Oakville had three in the frame, one of them a five-on-three.

Another two goals from Xander Derkatz, his fourteenth and fifteenth of the season, answered Dalpe’s opening goal of the third. Jackman and Dunford both completed their hat tricks before Oakville made the final score 15-6, becoming the first team to six wins on the season, and keeping Kitchener-Waterloo winless on the season.

Evan Constantopopoulos stopped 54 of 60 shots faced for his second career OJLL win. In addition to Jackman’s five points (3 goals, 2 assists), Qu had five (2 goals, 3 assists), as did Jack MacAlpine (1 goal, 4 assists).

Oakville return home Saturday to cap a three-game week when they host the Toronto Beaches (2-3) while Kitchener-Waterloo will be in St Catharines to face the Athletics (4-2).
