ORANGEVILLE NORTHMEN FLEX OFFENSIVE MUSCLES IN OAKVILLE
The Orangeville Northmen is the highest scoring team in the OJLL. On Tuesday, they travelled to the Toronto Rock Athletic Centre in Oakville and scored the second-highest goal total this season, winning 18-4.
Before the halfway mark of the first period Orangeville already led 5-0. Joey Spallina scored a first period hat trick and added two assists in the frame that saw five different Northmen score. Rookie Jameson Steele scored the only goal for the Buzz in the period that ended 8-1 for the visitors. Orangeville put 26 shots on debuting goaltender Carter Stephens in the period.
Fellow rookie Finn Morgan scored his first OJLL goal in the first meeting of the two teams. He opened the second scoring in the first minute, and closed the period for his first multi-goal game. In between however, four of an eventual six goals from the Northmen came in transition including former Brampton Excelsior teammates Connor O’Toole and Dante Bowen connecting. Trey Deere completed his hat trick in the second, where Orangeville stretched the lead to 14-4.
Despite giving up five straight power plays in the third period, the Northmen continued to pour it on offensively. Cole Teeple, Trey Deere, Brian Jackman and Sean Costigan all scored in the first five minutes of the third to give Orangeville their biggest offensive output of the season, 18-4 to sweep the season series against Oakville.
Trey Deere led the way scoring four times (4+4). The other hat trick was scored by Joey Spallina (3+5). Liam Matthews finished with six points (2+4) and Bowie Horsman had five (2+3), his best game since being traded to Orangeville.
Three rookies combined for all the scoring for Oakville – Finn Morgan (2+0), Charlie Boon (1+1) and Jameson Steele (1+1). In his OJLL debut Carter Stephens faced 63 shots.
