BRAMPTON EXCELSIORS COME FROM BEHIND TO BEAT WHITBY
The Whitby Warriors entered Tuesday night’s home game winning just once in their last four. Their opponents, the Brampton Excelsiors, were playing their first road game in nearly two and a half weeks – six games, a span in which they went 3-3, becoming sellers at the trade deadline. Their matchup was tight all game long but Brampton came from behind late to win 7-6.
Whitby started strong with three straight goals in the first period. Jack Oldman scored early before Jake Darlison and Lucas Littlejohn scored power play goals in the back half of the period. OJLL player of the week, Brampton’s Jacob Janke closed out the period with his Excelsiors down 3-1.
However, not for long. Christopher Da Silva and Tye Scott scored 38 seconds apart, two minutes into the second to tie the game. Nolan Marshall sandwiched a goal in between two more Warriors’ power play markers, putting Whitby up 5-4 after two.
In the third, it was Brampton’s turn to score on the power play when Nolan Byrne followed Janke’s second of the game. The Brampton rookie completed his hat trick and, despite a late goal from Littlejohn, led the Excelsiors to a 7-6 victory.
Jacob Janke’s hat trick was the second of his career – his previous hat trick was last game. His four points were matched by Nolan Byrne (1+3). Markus Madill was solid winning his second straight game since joining Brampton at the trade deadline.
Lucas Littlejohn (2+2) led Whitby in points. The only other multiple goal scorer was Jack Oldman (2+0). Garrett Thomson started in place of the suspended Ethan Harwood and played exceptionally well allowing just seven goals.
