ORANGEVILLE NORTHMEN WIN BATTLE OF THE OFFENSES AGAINST PETERBOROUGH

Winning against the Orangeville Northmen inside Tony Rose Arena is tough enough. On Tuesday night, the Peterborough Lakers were trying to do so for their first victory of the season. Peterborough’s biggest offensive output this season was no match for the powerhouse Northmen, who won their fourth game of the season 14-10.

Peterborough’s Nicholas Roode not only opened the scoring, but provided three points on four goals in the first period. Nate Sage and Brendan Marino had the only back-to-back goals, helping the Lakers lead 4-3 after one. All seven goals were scored by seven different players.

The offences took off in the second period with a combined eleven goals. Trey Deere opened the period with a shorthanded goal. William White and Colby Wood also added their first goals of the game. In total, thirteen players would score on Tuesday night. Four minutes into the period, Orangeville went on their first run – three goals in 1:06, spurred by three points from Joey Spallina. Roode closed the period with two points on three Lakers goals, to just two from the Northmen to end the second tied 9-9.

Four minutes into the third, Roode scored the Lakers tenth goal. Less than two minutes later, Dylan Sanderson and Joey Spallina both scored shorthanded on the same penalty. Spallina’s goal was his first in a natural hat trick that powered Orangeville to a 14-10 victory.

Joey Spallina led all runners with five goals and eight points giving him 32 on the season, tied for fourth in the OJLL. Spallina is one point behind teammate Liam Matthews who registered six assists. Trey Deere also finished with six points (3+3). Lindyn Hill played the final 36:45, allowing just four goals on 20 shots.

Nicholas Roode matched a career-high six points (3+3) to lead the Lakers. Rookie Colby Wood was right behind with five (2+3). Cole Gervais stopped 36 of 50 shots faced.
