WHITBY WARRIORS USE BIG FIRST FOR HOME WIN OVER OAKVILLE BUZZ

In their first meeting of the season on May 23, the Oakville Buzz used a four-goal second period to down the Whitby Warriors 10-8. On Tuesday night, the teams met again and while the Warriors were outscored in both the second and third, they had built a 7-1 lead in the first they would not relinquish, winning their third game in the last four, 11-9.

Already leading 2-1 thanks to a pair of goals in 38 seconds, Whitby ran off five more to close out the first period. Lucas Littlejohn capped the run scoring twice and adding an assist with Treysen Stewart, Owen Lee and Carson Christy netting the others.

Oakville’s Will Sheehan opened the scoring in the second with his second of the game. Sheehan would close the period as well, a frame in which Littlejohn scored again. Oakville won the second 4-2, but still trailed 9-5 after two.

The Buzz would capture the third period as well, also thanks to Sheehan. The veteran led a three-goal run in 1:11 where he assisted on Jack MacAlpine’s goal, and scored twice, but it was not enough as Whitby wins, 11-9.

Lucas Littlejohn led Whitby with four points (3+1). Also with four was Jack Oldman (1+3). Treysen Stewart (2+1), Owen Tapper (1+2) and Ryan Langille (0+3) all had three.

Coming off a career-high nine points, Will Sheehan added six (5+1) to break the top 10 in league scoring. His 14 goals are tied with two others for fourth. Thomas Bagnall scored a pair, and Jack MacAlpine (1+2) and Xander Derkatz (1+1) added singles. Riley Ford contributed three assists. Evan Constantopoulos was backed up by brother Zach for the first time. The Buffalo Bandits draft pick stopped 50 of 61 shots in the loss.
