TORONTO BEACHES DOMINATE SIX NATIONS ARROWS IN HOME VICTORY
The Toronto Beaches entered play Monday night atop the OJLL standings. Yes, they’ve done so with a powerful offence, but also thanks to strong goaltending and defence. At home against Six Nations, it was the back-end’s turn to shine, allowing a league-fewest goals this season in a 9-3 win.
Toronto already had a two-goal lead at the midway point of the first period. Winter Rivera got the Arrows on the board, scoring just 27 seconds after Greg Palmer. The Beaches still led 2-1 after the first.
It was another strong half period in the second where Matt Collison sandwiched a pair of goals around Greg Palmer’s second of the game. Brendan Anderson broke up the run, but another three (two from Willem Firth) ended the period with Toronto putting 29 shots on net, and leading 8-2.
The teams would trade goals in the third, giving Toronto its fifth win of the season, 9-3.
It was another game, another hat trick for Willem Firth (3+2). He now leads the league in goals (21 in 5 games) and points (41), nine ahead of Greg Palmer, who had three (2+1) on Monday. Matt Collison (2+3) and Liam Aston (1+4) also had five points.
Six Nations were led by Brendan Anderson’s two goals. For the first time this season Thunder Hill was held scoreless. Sakaronhiotane Thompson faced 72 shots, stopping 63 in a losing effort. It’s the second time this season the goalie has seen 70 or more in a game.
