RECORD NIGHT FOR FINN THOMSON KEEPS MIMICO PERFECT
It was an historic night at Mimico Arena during the JR Memorial Tournament. Finn Thomson’s second goal in the first period set the all-time record for points in Mimico history. He would become the overtime hero as well, helping his Mountaineers to a 7-6 win over the Oakville Buzz.
Thomson scored the middle two goals in what was a 4-0 Mimico first period. Oakville scored their first goal on the power play, and Will Sheehan cut the lead in half midway through the second period. Thomson completed his hat trick with the man advantage before the end of the frame.
Oakville rookie Charlie Boon opened the third with a goal 17 seconds into the period. Sheehan followed with another goal, which was answered by Lucas Dudemaine. With just over six minutes to play, Jameson Steele scored. He’d repeat the feat with 3:21 to play, tying the game and eventually forcing overtime.
In the extra frame, it was Thomson tip-toeing the crease to score his fourth goal of the game and winning 7-6 to keep Mimico a perfect 6-0.
Finn Thomson scored four goals and one assist, passing Graeme Gair for the all-time Mimico points lead – a record that stood since 1966. The two-time OJLL scoring champion now has 39 in six games, good enough for fourth. Justin Lee (1+3) had four points while Lucas Dudemaine (1+2) had three.
Will Sheehan led Oakville with three points (2+1) and now has 20 goals on the season. Jameson Steele scored twice, his second multi-goal night in as many games.
