PETERBOROUGH LAKERS HAND MIMICO MOUNTAINEERS FIRST LOSS

Just a few days after winning their first game of the season the Peterborough Lakers travelled to Mimico Arena and shocked the Mountaineers. Playing on back-to-back days, the home side were doubled up 12-6 for their first loss of the season.

Mimico actually led three separate times in the first period on goals from Justin Lee, Ryan Stines and Lucas Dudemaine. Each time in short succession the Lakers were able to answer. Frank Coyle matched Dudemaine’s goal within 58 seconds, and just 14 seconds later Nicholas Roode registered his second of the period to put Peterborough up 4-3 after one.

The Lakers would score the only two goals of the second, including Roode’s hat trick marker near the midway point. He’d also open the third period scoring on the power play. Though Isiah Moran-Weekes responded for Mimico, the Lakers would run off five straight goals. Lucas Osborne and Daniel Clark scored within 51 seconds in the middle of the streak. Finn Thomson scored twice late, but it was not enough as Peterborough win its second of the season, 12-6.

Nicholas Roode set a career-high for goals with four (he previously scored seven hat tricks) and five points. Also with five points was Sam Trumble (2+3). Matthew Drimmie contributed four assists. Cole Gervais stopped 46 of 52 shots in the win.

Only Finn Thomson (2+1) scored multiple goals for Mimico. Adam Power stopped 45 of 57 shots in his second start of the season.
