BEACHES SCORE EARLY AND OFTEN IN ORANGEVILLE, IMPROVE TO 8-0
The Toronto Beaches invaded Tony Rose Arena on Sunday night, scored six straight goals before the Orangeville Northmen got on the board, got stellar goaltending from Thomas Kiazyk and coasted to a 13-6 win, remaining undefeated with a 13-6 game.
It took over 11 minutes to score the opening goal when Matt Collison used a swim move and a spin move to beat his high defender, cut to the net and scored. Late in the period Willem Firth added a power play goal before assisting on Collison’s second to end the first 3-0.
Collison wasn’t done there. He scored short-handed early in the period, before assisting on Greg Palmer’s goal 3:30 into the second. Orangeville finally scored its first goal 11:07 into the second period when Vince Onofrio worked past a Cam Sanderson screen to send a low shot past Kiazyk. While shorthanded again, the Northmen’s Aiden Long grabbed a rebound and took off down floor scoring with Collison all over him. Firth added two more before the end of the period which ended on a late Cam Sanderson goal, but 8-4 for Toronto.
It was Firth and Collison again combining for six points off four goals through the first six minutes of the third period that sealed the game. Orangeville fans didn’t have much to cheer for all night long, but did erupt when U17 AP Max Kruger was left open on the top of the power play and picked the top left corner for his first OJLL goal. In the end, though, the night belonged to the Beaches who won 13-6 to improve to 8-0.
Willem Firth had another monster game with nine points (5+4). Right behind him was Matt Collison’s eight (4+4). Greg Palmer (1+4) had five points and Peyton Booth added four assists. Thomas Kiazyk was excellent stopped 40 of 46 shots.
All six Northmen goals came from six different players. Liam Matthews (1+2) and Vince Onofrio (1+2) registered three points. Trey Deere’s goal in the third was goal number 100 in his OJLL career.
