SIX NATIONS ARROWS WIN LATEST BATTLE WITH WHITBY WARRIORS
Historically, the Whitby Warriors and Six Nations Arrows have had some of the fiercest battles in the OJLL, often competing for the Iroquois Trophy. Their latest matchup at the ILA on Sunday however was simply to keep pace in the standings as the season winds down. It was a tight game until the third when the Arrows pulled away and won 9-7.
The teams traded goals twice in the first period after Jack Oldman scored in the opening minute to sit tied 2-2 after one. An Arrows penalty carried over to the second period when Josh Ricci scored in the opening minute. Noah Snyder followed that goal, which was answered by Whitby’s Lucas Littlejohn. Just over a minute later, Shakorennawis Swamp restored Six Nations’ two goal lead, but that was wiped out before the end of the period. New Warrior Jack MacAlpine soon thereafter and Riley Knox just before the final minute tied the game at 5 heading into the third.
Once again, the teams went back-to-back to start the third. Two minutes into the period goals from Daylin John-Hill and MacAlpine were scored 21 seconds apart. A minute later Kenny Porter scored for the Arrows, followed by a power play marker from Chase Cogan that would prove to be the game-winner. Six Nations move to 6-9 and into a hypothetical playoff spot with a 9-7 victory.
The Arrows nine goals were scored by eight different players. McCay Jimerson was the lone multi-goal scorer. Ethan Robertson stopped 52 of 59 shots. It was his second win of the season and second 50-plus save game of the season, the twelfth of his career.
Trade deadline acquisition Jack MacAlpine had four points for Whitby (2+2). Lucas Littlejohn (2+1) also scored twice.
