TORONTO BEACHES PLAYOFF CHANCE STILL ALIVE AFTER DOMINATING WIN OVER OAKVILLE BUZZ
The Toronto Beaches tumultuous regular season came to an end Monday night, facing a must-win situation to stay in the playoff hunt. Facing an Oakville Buzz team that won just once since the trade deadline at Ted Reeve Arena, the Beaches controlled the game throughout, winning 11-4.
Former Buzz star Will Sheehan scored the first two goals of the game. Coming off his first OJLL hat trick, Lucas Williams answered with the only Buzz goal of the period. Willem Firth and fellow former Oakville defender Eric McDonald each scored in transition to close out a 4-1 period for the Beaches.
After a pair of Toronto goals in the second, Firth continued in the second. First, he assisted on Ryan Gonsalvez first OJLL goal before adding two more of his own. Even though that made the score 9-1, Oakville responded with a three-goal run in 1:26. Jake Wright, Charlie Boon and Finn Morgan on the power play made the score closer. But a pair of late Toronto goals closed out the 11-4 win keeping Toronto’s playoff hopes alive.
Willem Firth had another big night with six points (4+2). Against his former team Will Sheehan (3+1) scored his ninth hat trick of the season – his fifth with Toronto. Greg Palmer added six assists. For the second straight game Thomas Kiazyk was replaced with the score no longer in doubt. He allowed just one goal on 17 shots.
Four different Buzz players combined to score Oakville’s four goals. Jake Wright led the team with three assists. Zach Constantopoulos started his third OJLL game stopping 18 of 29 shots. Older brother Evan played a perfect final 10:58 of the second period (19 saves).
