One team undefeated; one team winless. The Orangeville Northmen and Peterborough Lakers met in the Ontario Dairy Farmers, OJLL Game of the Week. While the broadcast was powered by MilkUp, the Northmen were powered by a huge second period, winning their fifth game of the season, 15-6.

Playing four-on-four early in the first, Nate Sage and Reece DiCicco both scored their first of the season putting Peterborough up a pair. Koleton Marquis had a hand in three Orangeville goals, however – scoring two of them – allowing Amos Whitcomb’s power play goal to tie the game at three after one.

The second period is a dangerous one for visitors to historic Tony Rose Arena in Orangeville. Often, the Northmen will score early and often, which they did in the second on Friday. Liam Matthews started not just the run but his own five-point period with a shorthanded goal just over a minute into the period.  Joey Spallina had three points of his own, and Whitcomb completed his hat trick with a power play goal and his ninth of the season with five seconds to go. Orangeville scored twice in the final minute to win the period 8-0, and lead 11-3 after two.

Copying their teammates in the first, Zack Thompson and Nick Crowley scored for the Lakers in the opening two minutes of the third. But a four-goal stretch for the Hornheads all but sealed the deal. Ben Trumble would add a late power play goal, but it was not enough as Orangeville remain the only undefeated team in the OJLL, winning 15-6, keeping Peterborough winless on the season.

All six Lakers goals were scored by six different players. Ben Trumble did lead them in points with five (1 goal, 4 assists) with Zack Thompson adding four (1 goal, 3 assists).

For Orangeville, Liam Matthews had a big night with seven points (3 goals, 4 assists), as did Joey Spallina (2 goals, 5 assists). Amos Whitcomb was not far behind with six points (3 goals, 3 assists).

Both teams will have Saturday off before Orangeville will host St Catharines (4-2) and Peterborough will travel to Six Nations (2-2) on Sunday.
