SIX NATIONS ARROWS END LOSING STREAK, KEEP PACE IN STANDINGS

With a gaggle of OJLL teams tied with four wins, Sunday night’s game at the ILA was important for the Six Nations Arrows to keep pace. Led by another strong game from Thunder Hill, the Arrows never trailed not just ending their five-game losing streak, but also handing the St Catharines Athletics their eighth straight loss, 11-7.

Near the midway mark of the first, with the score tied 1-1, Thunder Hill and Chase Cogan separated goals 25 seconds apart. Coltin Armitage got one back for the A’s, but it was answered before the end of the period which ended 4-2 for Six Nations.

Brendan Anderson stretched the lead seven minutes into the second period. With just under eight to go, St Catharines registered its only back-to-back goals in the same period when Noah Snyder and Logan Fletcher scored within 51 seconds of each other. However, back-to-back goals from Cogan completed his hat trick and ended the second with the Arrows leading 7-5.

Despite Armitage opening the third with a power play goal, the Arrows ran off three straight through the middle portion of the period. Shakorennawis Swamp, Thunder Hill and Kenny Porter pushed the lead to 10-6, before an eventual 11-7 win, the Arrows’ fourth of the season.

Thunder Hill led the Arrows with six points (2+4), matching his second highest career game. Chase Cogan scored his first career hat trick. Matthew Hamill (2+2) matched a career-high four points in his first game of the season.

Noah Snyder (2+2) led St Catharines with his second four point game of the season. Tye Steenhuis (1+3) also finished with four points. Coltin Armitage (2+1) and Keaton Zavtiz (1+2) each had three.
